Visiting The Kilns - the home of C.S.Lewis
If you would like to visit the home of C.S. Lewis (The Kilns) please carefully read the information below:
The Kilns is C.S. Lewis’ former home in Oxford. Since 1993, hundreds of C.S. Lewis lovers from America and Britain have labored to restore and renovate the home into a Christian study centre. The restoration was completed in 2001, and The Kilns was dedicated in July 2002 as a focal point of Christian hospitality, study, reflection and learned conversation between Christian scholars, artists, and laity the world over.
Tours
Upon request, individuals and small group tours can usually be arranged in advance by contacting the Head Resident of The Kilns at by email or by telephoning +44 (0)1865 741865. Unfortunately, RZIM Zacharias Trust is not able to arrange a tour on your behalf.
A contribution of £5 per person is suggested. You are asked to respect the fact that The Kilns is not a museum. Rather, it is intended to honor the memory of C.S. Lewis by being used as a quiet place of study, fellowship and creative scholarly work, much in the manner that characterized Lewis’ own period of residency there. Because the home functions primarily as a personal residence, as it did in Lewis' time, there are occasions when it simply may prove impractical, or even impossible, to receive outside visitors.
To minimize the possibility of disappointment, we strongly encourage you to make every effort to arrange for the desired visit and tour well in advance, if at all possible.

How To Get To The Kilns
By Bus
- The Kilns is approximately 10-15 minutes by bus from the centre of Oxford.
- You need to get bus number 8A from bus stop F2 on Queen’s Street. Please note it is important you take the 8A and not the 8.
- Ask for a return ticket to Kiln Lane (ask the driver to tell you where to get off).
- The 8A buses run every half hour.
By Taxi
The simplest thing is to get a taxi directly to The Kilns. This is more expensive, but if there is a group of 4 of you the price will be similar to that of the bus.
